The morin khuur, also known as the horsehead fiddle, is a captivating traditional musical instrument from Mongolia. Its name, “morin khuur,” translates to “fiddle with a horse’s head,” which perfectly describes its distinct design. The instrument features a wooden soundbox, a long neck, and two strings made of horsehair that are stretched over a small resonating skin.
